2019 DPS Apprenticeship Program

Kick start your career as an apprentice working within one of the nation’s most iconic buildings, Australian Parliament House.

The Department of Parliamentary Services has launched a new Apprenticeship Program offering successful candidates the opportunity to build specialist trade skills within a unique and diverse work environment.  Apprentices will receive ongoing support as they work, train and study towards achieving a nationally recognised trade qualification.

The Department has a wide range of trade roles which focus on the maintenance of Australian Parliament House and the management of plant and equipment, building fabrics and landscape services.

We are offering apprenticeships in the following roles:

  • Greenkeeping
  • Horticulture
  • Air-conditioning and refrigeration
  • Plumbing
  • Carpentry
  • Electrician
  • Stonemasonry
  • Commercial Cookery
  • Patisserie

Who we are looking for

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are eager to learn new skills and work in a collaborative team environment. Apprentices must have:

  • strong communication skills
  • the ability to work as part of a team
  • enthusiasm and initiative the ability to work under pressure, and
  • a passion or interest in learning new skills and mastering a trade.

Selection Process

We use a range of assessment methods to select the most suitable candidates for the apprenticeship program. DPS strongly upholds the merit principle and our processes have been designed to select the best person for the job.

The process will include application, résumé assessment, various stages of interviews and reference checking.

Key Dates

Applications for the Department of Parliamentary Services 2019 Apprenticeship Program will open 17 September 2018 and close 15 October 2018.

Apprenticeships will commence in mid January 2019 and run over a 3-4 year period, based on the apprenticeship type.
