Eligibility
Employment with the department is subject to conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 and subordinate determinations and directions.
The department will consider applications from non-Australian citizens on a case by case basis in accordance with the merit principle as required by subsection 10(1)(f) of the Act.
If an applicant is not an Australian citizen, he/she must hold, or be able to gain and maintain, a visa to work in Australia. Information about Australian citizenship and working in Australia can be found at:

The department will not ordinarily engage applicants who have received
a redundancy benefit from a Commonwealth employer within the last 12 months.
Engagement may also be subject to probation, security and character clearance
and health clearance.
Reviewable Decisions (Promotion)
Certain promotion decisions which resulted in promotion of an employee to the classifications of Australian Parliamentary Service Level 1/2 (Upper Band) to Australian Parliamentary Service Level 6 (inclusive)
may be subject to review.
To be eligible to seek a review of a promotion decision, you must be
an ongoing Parliamentary Service or Australian Public Service employee
who was an applicant for promotion to the relevant employment opportunity.
A promotion decision can only be reviewed on the grounds of merit.
Applications for review of a promotion decision must be lodged with the
Australian Public Service Commission (APSC), and must be received by the Commissioner
by 5pm on the 14 th day after notification of the promotion in the Commonwealth
