Conclusion
9.1 For the Conference on 12 March 1999 speakers were invited to present
papers that reflected on their experience about the native title process
from January 1994 until the Amendment Act came into operation from 30
September 1998. They are also invited to comment on the ways in which
the Act has been amended and to provide their expectations about the Act's
future operation. Some State Governments advised the Conference about
the significant legislative and administrative changes that have been
brought about as a consequence of the amended Act.
9.2 The Committee is confident that the Conference will prove to have
been a significant initial step in the conduct of the inquiry pursuant
to s.206(d) of the Native Title Act 1993.
