Dissenting report by the Australian Democrats

The Australian Democrats retain serious concerns in relation to this Bill. In particular:

1. We remain unconvinced that there is a need for such legislation.

2. We are not satisfied that this Bill will actually achieve the objectives it sets out to achieve.

3. We are concerned by its proposed retrospective operation.

4. We do not believe the Governor-General should be empowered to make regulations granting wide-ranging exemptions to anti-discrimination legislation.

Accordingly, we reserve our position on the Bill.

Senator Brian Greig
