Report to the Senate on the Inquiry into the Effects of Climate Change on Training and Employment Needs8 September 2009 © Commonwealth of Australia 2009 |

1.1 On 16 June 2008, the Senate referred the following matters to the Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Committee for inquiry and report by 20 March 2009:
1.2 The reporting date was subsequently extended to 17 September 2009.
1.3 The inquiry was advertised in The Australian and posted on the committee's website calling for submissions. The committee also wrote to relevant organisations and individuals to notify them of the inquiry and to invite submissions. The committee received 51 submissions as listed in Appendix 1. The committee acknowledges and thanks all those who provided submissions.
1.4 On 23 June 2009, the committee decided to discharge this inquiry given the large amount of work undertaken by the Senate in the area of climate change over recent months. However, the committee reserves the right to reactivate an inquiry in this area should it be required.
Recommendation
1.5 The committee recommends that this inquiry not be proceeded with and be discharged from the notice paper.
