Inquiry into the provisions of the Communications Legislation Amendment (Information Sharing and Datacasting) Bill 2007

Interim report

27 July 2007

Senator the Hon. Paul Calvert
President of the Senate

Interim Report

On 21 June 2007, the Senate referred the Communications Legislation Amendment (Information Sharing and Datacasting) Bill 2007 to the Standing Committee on the Environment, Communications, Information Technology and the Arts for inquiry and report by 30 July 2007.

The committee has received submissions raising complex issues on which it sought advice from the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.  That advice was received on 25 July 2007. A number of outstanding issues remain which the committee considered would be best addressed by a public hearing on the bill, which it intends to hold on 7 August 2007. The committee has agreed to prepare a final report as soon as possible following that public hearing.
