Subject: Proosed Invasive Species
Legislation
VRFish is the name of the Victorian Recreational
Fishing Peak Body and we represent all recreational fishers in
Victoria.
We are very concerned with the very broad
definitions in this document which states that any introduced species is in
effect an invasive species. There are many introduced species in Australia that
are highly prized by recreational fishers Brown Trout and Rainbow trout
being two that readily come to mind. We would like to see a degree of protection
offered to some of the desirable introduced species to ensure that the value
that they add to the Australian Recreational fishing experience is recognised
and accepted. We wiuld suggest that a list be established with desirable
introduced species that will be maintained in the environment.
We trust that there will be a representative of
both the recreational fishing community and the recreational hunting community
on any committee that is to examine these isues..
