Subject: Submission to the
Senate Inquiry into the Environmental Regulations of Uranium Mining
Because of the very poor record of the uranium mining industry to contain
spills, of polluting wetlands and failure to report such incidents I
consider it very necessary to tighten the regulations governing the
industry.
The groundwater near the South Australian mines must be protected from
contamination that will adversely effect the aquifers for many decades.
The Northern Territory mines must be prevented from polluting the wetlands,
which are in a World Heritage area, and high environmental standards applied to
halt the degradation caused by the mining.
Yours sincerely,
John Card
