Subject: Senate Enquiry into
Uranium Mining
Dear Madam/Sirs,
Unfortunately I could not access your site for
instructions as to forwarding a Senate Enquiry so I will register my concern re
the terms of reference:
The Enquiry should include Western Mining at
Olympic Dam, Roxby Downs SA.
Due to inconsistancy in reporting requirements
Heathgate and Honeymoon are required to report all spills based on terms under
the trial drilling requirements. It was brought to my attention by Heathgate
Mining at the Environmental Protection Round Table Conference that Western
Mining had in fact had far greater spills- 500,00-Litres if my memory serves me
correctly, yet they are not required to report these events. There needs to be
considrable research into the potential impact of leaching into the
environment from the actual Olympic Dam.
That monitoring spills/waste should be placed into
the hands of more than one department- extend to Environmental Pollution
Authority as well as PIRSA and RPA.
Without the inclusion of the largest Uranium mine
in SA the situation seem to be inequitable.
