17th September 2003

Since 1996 the Howard regime has implemented many Policies of Mass Destruction the greatest of these is what I believe is the theft of Telstra from the people. Telstra is the biggest telecommunications company within Australia it employs 40,611 people. Prior to 1996 Telstra was solely and wholey owned by the people, it offered secure employment with safe economic growth and stability within Australia.

Since part of Telstra has been privatized people now have to wait days on end to have a new phone connected and at a price of which is day light robbery, since part of Telstra has become privatized line rentals have increased above CPI, in remote and regional Queensland the standard of service is poor and people are treated like second class citizens. Since the first part sale of Telstra the cost of owning a phone has increased, but where is all the surplus profit going.

Why sell the goose that lays the Golden eggs, Telstra generates approximately $2 billion  in profit per year and contributes greatly to the Australian economy, under a fully privatized telecommunications corporation the service that Telstra offers to consumers will deteriorate as the service will primarily focus on gaining a return for its investors and will be not of expansion or bettering the standards of service within regional or remote Australia, but that of downsizing and finding ways and means of pinching pennys from the Australian people.

Telstra will become a Corporation that will hold the ability to manipulate and monopolize its market without Government regulation, we can be certain that in the end it will be the consumer who carrys the burden of the Howard regimes ideology.

The Howard regime has failed the Australian people if they were to sell Telstra; ironically it is not theres to sell it belongs in public hands where it is guaranteed to provide decent employment and focus on providing professional standards of service to the Australian people .

                                                       Sincerely
