Telstra Sale?
Alan Eggleston

Dear Sir,

(1)  "The change in Telstra's ownership status will not affect the government's ability to protect the interests of consumers...." (Tenterfield Star, 21/08/03).  Yeah, right!  You can't even protect the town of Canberra from bushfire.

(2)  We completely oppose the sale of the last 51% of Telstra.

(3)  Our phone breaks down at least twice a year and it takes a week to get it fixed each time.  We live 30 km from town on a sheep property with only one vehicle and not even a school bus.  Lack of phone for one week and lack of a computer gives us an isolation factor that you wouldn't know about in Canberra.

(4)  The continuing dismantling of Telstra will further erode local jobs in a town already neglected by your government.

(5)  We have no communication alternatives in our area as mobiles don't work in this part of the world and the phones only work 50 weeks of the year.

(6)  We would not recommend going to an election on this issue!!

Kind regards,
Greg and Joyce Newton
