Subject: Sale of Telstra
Hello and thankyou for the opportunity to have yet another say on the sale of Telstra. I would have to say that I have a firm conviction that the full sale of Telstra is not a good idea. The people of Australia own this company and it returns a wonderful dividend to the people of Australia as well as maintaining the ownership of a vital network in Australian control. I cannot comprehend why the government would even consider selling the infrastructure that a modern information age runs on. Imagine a foreign country like singtel gaining control of telstra, the mind boggles.
As a rural customer of Telstra we already struggle with old exchanges and slow service, we remain unconvinced that a privatised company would have a greater commitment to upgrading ageing infrastructure. Surely if it did it would only be where it received gov. support to do it, ie the government would pay for infrastructure and someone else would own it, thats just ridiculus. Frankly from anyway I look at it the ideal situation is Govt. ownership, it provides a social agenda for the good of all Australians and importantly shares the dividend wealth among all Australians, not just those wealthy enough to buy shares.

In closing we are still trying to get the govt. to listen to the will of the people, for years we have been telling them we do not want OUR Telstra sold, and you wonder why no-one is bothering to send submissions, frankly we are sick of bashing our heads against the wall.  This issue is symptomatic of a sad failing of representative democracy as our parliamentarians are not taking heed of there electorate's wishes.
