Inquiry into food production in Australia - Impact of Managed Investment Schemes
Terms of reference
The committee has resolved to consider the impact of managed
investment schemes (MIS) within its current inquiry into food
production. The committee proposes to examine the impact of MIS, and
the recent collapse of some MIS companies, on:
- land and land prices;
- water resources and water prices;
- the efficient production of food, including the impact of MIS on
supply and demand and on the availability and efficient use of
capital;
- the social fabric of rural and regional communities, particularly
the availability of employment and capacity building opportunities
within these communities;
- returns to farmers; and
- opportunities for new and emerging agricultural products.
The committee invites you to make a submission addressing all or some
of these issues by 23 July 2009. Late submissions will be accepted.
Please not that submissions
become committee documents and are only made public after a decision by
the committee. Persons making submissions must not release them without
the committee's prior approval. Submissions are covered by parliamentary
privilege but the unauthorised release of them is not.
If you wish to make a
confidential submission, or have any questions in relation to the inquiry,
or any matter related to the committee or its procedures, please do not
hesitate to call the committee secretariat on (02) 6277 3511.
Following consideration of submissions, the committee is proposing to
hold public hearings. The committee will consider all submissions and may
invite individuals and organisations to give evidence at the public
hearings.
Inquiries from hearing and speech impaired people should be directed to the Parliament House TTY number (02) 6277 7799.
