About the Treaties process
The Treaties Committee scrutinises all treaties that the Australian Government proposes to enter into, including free trade agreements. Committee Chair Wyatt Roy MP explains how the process works.
Minor Treaty Actions
Minor Treaty Actions, or Category 3 treaty actions, include treaty actions that do not impact significantly on the national interest and are likely to have negligible financial or legal effect within Australia.
The Committee has the discretion to inquire formally into minor treaty actions or indicate its acceptance of them without a formal inquiry. If the Committee decides that binding treaty action can be taken for a minor treaty action without a formal inquiry, then this decision will be noted in the next report of the Committee tabled in Parliament.
