USER GUIDE

Purpose of the Portfolio Budget Statement

The purpose of the Portfolio Budget Statement (PBS) is to inform Senators and Members of the basis for the proposed accrual budget for the Department of the Parliamentary Library (DPL) with particular emphasis on the provisions in the Appropriation (Parliamentary Departments) Bill (No.1) 2001–2002. The PBS indicates, inter alia, the proposed allocation of funding from the 2001–02 Budget for the department's outcome and across its outputs.

Style Conventions Used in the Document

The PBS has been prepared on an accrual basis in accordance with the Department of Finance and Administration's Guidelines for the preparation of the Portfolio Budget Statements 2001–02.

The style convention used in the document is to round the amount in the tables to the nearest $'000. All 'totals' are the rounded additions of unrounded figures. Any discrepancies in tables between totals and sum of components are due to rounding.

Numbers relating to staffing levels are given in whole numbers.

Columns in tables that relate to the 2001–02 Budget are shaded.
