Both biotechnology and genetic engineering are included here. Biotechnology is a broader term covering applications of biological sciences. Genetic engineering, a biotechnology, involves the alteration of the genetic make-up or genotype of a living organism to achieve a changed function; e.g. the production of a chemical.
