Department of Climate Change
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's ministry
was announced on 29 November 2007.
Senator
the Hon. Penny Wong was appointed Australia’s
first Minister for Climate Change and Water.
As a Cabinet Minister, Senator Wong is to
drive Australia's international climate
change negotiations and be responsible for
the establishment of Australia's first national
emissions trading scheme. The Department
of Climate Change was established on
3 December 2007 within the Prime Minister
and Cabinet portfolio. The Department of
Climate Change delivers programs under the
Australian Government's climate change strategy.
These programs were formerly administered
by the Australian Greenhouse Office. Under
the Administrative
Arrangements Order (AAO) matters dealt
with by the Department include:
Department of the Environment,
Water, Heritage and the Arts
Peter
Garrett was appointed Minister for the
Environment, Heritage and The Arts. Mr Garrett
will work with Senator Wong as the Minister
for the Environment. The Department
of Environment, Water, Heritage and the
Arts was established on the 3 December
2007. The Department develops and implements
national policy, programs and legislation
to protect and conserve Australia's environment
and heritage and to promote Australian arts
and culture. The AAO
sets out matters dealt with by the Department.
