Chapter 19. Addresses to the Queen or the Governor-General
Chapter outline
This chapter sets out the procedures for making addresses to the Queen or the Governor-General.
267 Addresses moved
- A Minister may move an address to Her Majesty or the Governor-General after notice, except in cases of urgency.
- A Minister may move without notice an address of congratulation or condolence to members of the Royal Family.
268 Addresses to Queen given to Governor-General
The Speaker shall give to the Governor-General addresses to Her Majesty or to members of the Royal Family, and ask the Governor-General to send the addresses for presentation.
269 Presentation of addresses to Governor-General
- Unless the House otherwise orders, the Speaker shall present any addresses to the Governor-General.
- When the House orders that an address be presented by the whole House, the Speaker and the House together, shall attend at the place appointed by the Governor-General. The Speaker shall read the address to the Governor-General, while the Members who moved and seconded the address take their place at the Speaker’s left hand.
270 Governor-General’s reply
The Speaker shall report to the House the Governor-General’s reply to an address presented by the whole House.
