Cambodia and Australia sign parliamentary link
Ian Harris and Sarith Oum

A parliamentary partnership agreement between the Australian House of Representatives and the Parliament of the Kingdom of Cambodia was signed in Canberra on 2 February. The Clerk of the House of Representatives Ian Harris and the Secretary-General of the Cambodian Senate Sarith Oum signed the memorandum of understanding.

“I am very delighted to sign this memorandum of understanding and we hope to develop the closer cooperation and friendship between these two legislative bodies,” Secretary-General Oum said.

Ian Harris said this memorandum of understanding with Cambodia represented another significant development for the Australian Parliament.

“It helps draw together the closer ties between the Australian Parliament and other legislatures in the region,” Mr Harris said.

“It will be first step in the development of closer parliamentary relations between Cambodia and Australia. This agreement with the Parliament of Cambodia and in particular its Senate is also a leading example of parliamentary strengthening in the South-East Asian region.”
