House releases CD-ROM

A new CD-ROM containing the most comprehensive collection of facts, stories and images of Australias House of Representatives ever produced is now available to schools, tertiary institutions, students and the public.

Produced by the Department of the House of Representatives, in association with the Swish Group, A House for the Nation covers the people, places and historical events of the first century of the House (1901-2001).

Features on the CD-ROM include:

Historic video clips

  • The inauguration of the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901
  • 1913 footage of the naming of Canberra
  • 1916 conscription referendum cinema advertisement
  • 1927 opening of the provisional (old) Parliament House
  • footage of early Prime Ministers (1929 footage of newly-elected PM James Scullin arriving in Canberra; 1932 footage of PM Jospeh Lyons introducing his Cabinet; 1949 footage of PM Robert Menzies introducing his new Cabinet)
