Role and Responsibilities

Ian Harris is the Clerk of the House, a position he has occupied since late July 1997. The office of Clerk of the House involves leading approximately 250 officers who provide administrative and security support to the House, its committees and its international and domestic liaison services. He has published a number of articles relating to the House and Australia's constitutional history.

Biography

Ian joined the House of Representatives Department in 1972, after having previously worked as a schoolteacher, university tutor, and public servant in the then Public Service Board.

Ian is married to Erika, and they have four adult children. Outside of work, his principal interests are football, golf and beekeeping.
