Role and Responsibilities

As Serjeant-at-Arms, David Elder is the Manager of the Members' Services, Corporate Support and Security areas. These areas provide a range of support services to Members of the House of Representatives in Parliament House, corporate support services to the Department, and security services for Parliament House (security services are provided jointly with the Department of the Senate). The areas aim to provide advice and services of the highest standard, cost effectively. David also performs the traditional ceremonial role of the Serjeant-at-Arms, including leading the Speaker into the House at is commencement each sitting day.

Biography

David has an MA from the Australian National University. He has worked in the Parliament since 1981, having joined the Australian Public Service in 1979. David is married with two children.
