Parliamentary Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
The Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade considers and reports on matters relating to foreign affairs, defence, trade, and human rights that may be referred to it by either House of the Parliament, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Defence, or the Minister for Trade. The Committee may also inquire into matters raised in annual reports of relevant Commonwealth Government departments and authorities or in reports of the Commonwealth Auditor-General. During its inquiry into the RAAF's F-111 Deseal-Reseal program, the committee heard that while the aircraft had been a key part of Australia's defence strategy since the 1970s,keeping these ageing strike-bombers in the air has come at a terrible human cost.
In this video presentation from the About the House TV program first screened in October 2008, former workers and their families discuss some of the evidence presented to the committee.
