COMMITTEE IN ADELAIDE TO HEAR ABOUT CATCHMENT PROBLEMS

The Commonwealth House of Representatives Environment and Heritage committee will hold a public hearing for its inquiry into catchment management next Wednesday, 9 February, in Adelaide.

The issues the committee is looking at include the value of a catchment approach to environmental management, best practice methods of achieving catchment health and environmental sustainability, and the role of governments, the private sector and the community in catchment management.

While in South Australia the committee will be visiting the Torrens and Patawalonga catchments for discussions and inspections with the catchment management boards, the Mount Lofty Catchment Program and the SA CARE Program at Murray Bridge.

At the public hearing the committee will be hearing from representatives of the CRC for Water Quality and Treatment, the Murray Darling Association and the Adelaide Hills Community Action Group. The committee is awaiting a submission from the South Australian government.

The public hearing will commence at 2:00 p.m. at the Hilton International, 233 Victoria Square, Adelaide. More details of the hearing program.
