Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs conducts inquiries into matters referred to it by the House of Representatives or a Minister of the Commonwealth Government.

On the 19 November 2009 the Committee adopted a new inquiry into the high level of involvement of Indigenous juveniles and young adults in the criminal justice system.


 

Community Stores

The Committee has recently tabled the report of its inquiry into remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait community stores.

This About the House TV presentation examines some of the issues that the committee examined. This program was first broadcast in May 2009

The report Everybody's Business contains 33 recommendations to ensure remote communities can obtain a secure and affordable food supply using the store or food delivery model that best suits their circumstances.
