10  Staffing statistics

This appendix contains summary information on the department's staffing in 2002–03.

Location and classification of staff

Included in the figures in the following table are the sessional staff and Parliamentary Assistants employed by the department. These staff are employed in order to accommodate variations to working patterns during the sittings of the House and are generally not employed when the House is not sitting. Other non-ongoing staff are also included in the table.

It should be noted that not all departmental staff participated in the survey conducted to collect the above information.

Separations

A total of 47 staff left the department in 2002–03 (56 in 2001–02). The reasons for separation, with comparative figures for 2001–02, are detailed in Table 23.

The department's turnover rate for the year was 14.6 per cent of ongoing staff (having been 7.2 per cent in 2001–02).
