Resignation of senators
Section 19 of the
Constitution provides that a senator may resign office by a letter addressed to
the President, or to the Governor-General if there is no President or if the
President is absent from the Commonwealth. The place of a resigning senator
becomes vacant upon the receipt of the resignation by the President or
Governor-General.
