SELECTION OF BILLS COMMITTEE
REPORT NO. 7 OF 2008

  1. The committee met in private session on Thursday, 26 June 2008 at 10.50 am.
  2. The committee resolved to recommend—That—
    1. the provisions of the Family Law Amendment (De Facto Financial Matters and Other Measures) Bill 2008 be referred immediately to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee for inquiry and report by 27 August 2008;
    2. the provisions of the Tax Laws Amendment (2008 Measures No. 4) Bill 2008 be referred immediately to the Economics Committee for inquiry and report by 27 August 2008;
    3. the Trade Practices (Creeping Acquisitions) Amendment Bill 2007 [2008] be referred immediately to the Economics Committee for inquiry and report by 27 August 2008; and
    4. the provisions of the Trade Practices Legislation Amendment Bill 2008 be referred immediately to the Economics Committee for inquiry and report by 27 August 2008.
  3. The committee resolved to recommend—That the following bills not be referred to committees:
    • Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Laws Bill 2008 [No. 2]
    • Migration Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 1) 2008
    • Telecommunications Interception Legislation Amendment Bill 2008.

The committee recommends accordingly.

  1. The committee deferred consideration of the following bills to its next meeting:
    • Aviation Legislation Amendment (2008 Measures No. 1) Bill 2008
    • Aviation Legislation Amendment (International Airline Licences and Carriers' Liability Insurance) Bill 2008
    • Financial Framework Legislation Amendment Bill 2008
    • National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Amendment Bill 2008
    • Plastic Bag Levy (Assessment and Collection) Bill 2002 [2008].
