Report

  1. The committee met in private session on Tuesday, 9 August 2005 at 6.48 pm.

  2. The committee resolved to recommendThat

    1. the Civil Aviation Legislation Amendment (Mutual Recognition with New Zealand) Bill 2005 be referred immediately to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 5 September 2005 (see appendix 1 for statement of reasons for referral);
    2. the provisions of the Health Insurance Amendment (Medicare Safety-nets) Bill 2005 be referred immediately to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 5 September 2005 (see appendix 2 for statement of reasons for referral);
    3. the provisions of the Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Workplace Relations Requirements) Bill 2005 be referred immediately to the Employment, Workplace Relations and Education Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 10 October 2005 (see appendix 3 for statement of reasons for referral); and
    4. the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Amendment (Maritime Security Guards and Other Measures) Bill 2005 be referred immediately to the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee for inquiry and report by 5 September 2005 (see appendix 4 for statement of reasons for referral).

  3. The committee resolved to recommendThat the following bills not be referred to committees:
