Senate Standing Committee on Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport

Standing order 25 provides for the appointment of a legislative and general purpose standing committee on Rural and Regional Affairs.

Information on the establishment, role and powers of Senate committees can be found in Chapter 5, in the Standing Orders of the Senate.

The Rural and Regional Affairs portfolio coverage includes Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Transport and Regional Services.

Prior to 11 September 2006 the Senate legislative and general purpose standing committees comprised eight pairs of legislation and references committees. From 11 September the pairs of legislation and references committees ceased to exist, with each pair being combined into a single legislative and general purpose standing committee.
