Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs
Standing order 25 provides for the appointment of a legislative and general purpose standing committee on Legal and Constitutional matters.
Information on the establishment, role and powers of Senate committees can be found in Chapter 5, in the Standing Orders of the Senate.
The Legal and Constitutional portfolio coverage includes Attorney-General's and Immigration and Citizenship.
Prior to 11 September 2006 the Senate legislative and general purpose standing committees comprised eight pairs of legislation and references committees. From 11 September the pairs of legislation and references committees ceased to exist, with each pair being combined into a single legislative and general purpose standing committee.
