Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Public Administration
Standing order 25 provides for the appointment of a legislative and general purpose standing committee on Finance and Public Administration.
Information on the establishment, role and powers of Senate committees can be found in Chapter 5, in the Standing Orders of the Senate.
The Finance and Public Administration Committee maintains oversight
over three portfolios that include: Prime Minister and Cabinet, Finance and
Deregulation and Human Services. The Committee also maintains oversight
over
two Parliamentary Departments: the Department of the Senate and the
Department of Parliamentary Services.
Under each portfolio, the matters dealt
with by government departments, and the legislation
administered by corresponding government Ministers, are specified in the
Administrative
Arrangements Order.
Prior to 11 September 2006 the Senate legislative and general purpose standing committees comprised eight pairs of legislation and references committees. From 11 September the pairs of legislation and references committees ceased to exist, with each pair being combined into a single legislative and general purpose standing committee.
