Electoral amendments

The Standing Committee on Finance & Public Administration is examining the provisions of the Electoral and Referendum Legislation Amendment Bill 2006.

The bill gives effect to the government's response to recommendations of the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters' report on the 2004 federal election.

The provisions include a range of measures related to Australians voting overseas, a trial for electronic voting to assist sight-impaired people, the introduction of a deadline for postal vote applications and changes to the delivery of postal voting material.
