Senate Standing Committee on Education, Employment and Workplace Relations

Standing order 25 provides for the appointment of a legislative and general purpose standing committee on Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

Information on the establishment, role and powers of Senate committees can be found in Chapter 5, in the Standing Orders of the Senate.

The Committee has had the following name changes in recent Parliaments:

  • 1994-98 — Employment, Education and Training Committee
  • 1998-01 — Employment, Workplace Relations, Small Business and Education Committee
  • 2001-2008 — Employment, Workplace Relations and Education
  • 2008- Current - Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Committee

The Education, Employment and Workplace Relations portfolio coverage includes Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

Prior to 11 September 2006 the Senate legislative and general purpose standing committees comprised eight pairs of legislation and references committees. From 11 September the pairs of legislation and references committees ceased to exist, with each pair being combined into a single legislative and general purpose standing committee.
