Consideration of the Telstra (Dilution of Public Ownership) Bill 1996
CONTENTS

SCOPE OF CHAPTER 7

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Terms of Reference

Clauses (j) and (k) of the inquiry's terms of reference relate to the environmental impact of deregulation:

    (j) the extent to which Telstra and telecommunications carriers should be excluded from State and local government regulations; and

    (k) the impact of duplication of infrastructure, and the extent to which this can be reduced by sharing.

The Bill

These two clauses of the terms of reference are not dealt with in the Bill and deal essentially with the cabling issues and the appearance of mobile telephone towers in urban and rural landscapes, community response to such activities, and the issue of duplication of infrastructure.
