Senate Committee Activities

Environment and Communications Committee

The Senate Environment and Communications Committees are inquiring into the following matters:

Performance and management of electricity network companies. Submissions still being accepted. Report date: March 2015.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation Amendment (Local Content) Bill 2014. Submissions still being accepted. Report date: 25 March.

Enhancing Online Safety for Children Bill 2014 and a related bill. Submissions still being accepted. Report date: 3 March 2015.

Economics Committee

The Senate Economics References Committee is inquiring into, and accepting submissions on, the following matters:

  • Tax avoidance and aggressive minimisation by corporations registered in Australia and multinational corporations operating in Australia;
  • Future of Australia's automotive industry–submissions by 29 May. As its first order of business, the committee intends to inquire into manufacturing and supply chain transition and would like to receive submissions for this part of the inquiry as soon as possible and, if practicable, by mid February 2015; and
  • The scale and incidence of insolvency in the Australian construction industry.

Education and Employment Committee

The Senate Education and Employment References Committee is inquiring into the operation, regulation and funding of private vocational education and training (VET) providers in Australia. Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee

The Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committees are inquiring into the following matters:

Potential use by the Australian Defence Force of unmanned air, maritime and land platforms. Submissions due: 6 February 2015. Report date: 25 June.

The Commonwealth’s treaty-making process. Submissions due: 27 February. Report date: 18 June.

Delivery and effectiveness of Australia’s bilateral aid program in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Submissions due: 27 March. Report date: 26 November.

Select Committee on Wind Turbines

Community Affairs Committee

The Senate Community Affairs Committees are inquiring into the following matters:

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Amendment (A Stronger Land Account) Bill 2014. Hearing date: 13 February. Report date: 4 March.

Out of home care. Submissions welcome. Report date: 13 May.

Availability of new, innovative and specialist cancer drugs in Australia. Submissions due: 27 February. Report date: 26 March.

Adequacy of existing residential care arrangements available for young people with severe physical, mental or intellectual disabilities in Australia. Submissions due: 6 February. Report date: 30 June.

Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Committee
