Senate Committee Activities

This advertisement provides information on Senate and some joint parliamentary committee activities, particularly new inquiries. Senate committees encourage public involvement in their inquiries and submissions are invited from interested persons and organisations.

 

Community Affairs Committee

The Senate Community Affairs Committees are inquiring into the following matters:

Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority Amendment Bill 2014. Submissions due: 3 October. Report date: 27 October.

Environment and Communications Committee

The Senate Environment and Communications References Committee is inquiring into the following matters:

Environmental biosecurity – an inquiry into the adequacy of arrangements to prevent the entry and establishment of invasive species likely to harm Australia’s natural environment. Accepting submissions. Report date: 3 December.

Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Committee

The Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee is inquiring into the following matters:

Australia's transport energy resilience and sustainability, with particular reference to options for introducing mandatory oil stockholdings. Report date: March 2015.

Current and future arrangements for the marketing of Australian sugar. Report date: 27 November.

Industry structures and systems governing the imposition of and disbursement of marketing and research and development (R&D) levies in the agricultural sector. Report date: 24 November.

Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee

The Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee is inquiring into the Guardian for Unaccompanied Children Bill 2014. Report date: 5 February 2015.

Select Committee into the Abbott Government's Budget Cuts

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples–Joint Select Committee

The Joint Select Committee on Constitutional Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples invites submissions on steps that can be taken to progress towards a successful referendum on Indigenous Constitutional Recognition. Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights is undertaking a review into the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory Act 2012 and related legislation, following on from its 2013 inquiry into the legislation. Committees reserve the right to not receive a submission in whole or in part. Persons making submissions must not release them until they have been published by the committee. The prior publication of a submission will not be protected by parliamentary privilege.
