Review of the declaration of Islamic State as a declared terrorist organisation under the Citizenship Act 2007

On 15 September 2016, the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security resolved to inquire into and report on the Immigration Minister's declaration of Islamic State as a declared terrorist organisation under the Australian Citizenship Act 2007.

Section 35 of the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 provides for the Immigration Minister to declare a listed terrorist organisation (under the Criminal Code) to be a 'declared terrorist organisation' under the Citizenship Act.  The Committee may review this declaration and report its comments and recommendations to the Parliament before the end of the disallowance period. The disallowance period is 15 sitting days from the day the regulation is tabled.

On 7 November 2016 the Committee tabled its report.
