This inquiry will consider the Australian Citizenship Amendment (Allegiance to Australia) Bill 2015.

The Bill contains measures to specify circumstances in which an Australian dual national is taken to have lost their Australian citizenship.

The Attorney-General has also asked the Committee to consider whether proposed section 35A of the Bill (the conviction-based cessation) should apply retrospectively with respect to convictions prior to the commencement of the Act.
