Inquiry into Health issues across international borders

The Standing Committee on Health and Ageing, after reviewing the 2010-2011 annual report of the Department of Health and Ageing and pursuant to Standing Order 215(c) resolved to inquire into and report on Health issues across international borders.

The Committee will convene a series of roundtable discussions to learn about the challenges for population health in Australia which stem from its proximity to regional neighbours and increased globalisation. Specifically, the Committee will inquire into the screening, surveillance and control practices for infectious diseases in Australia, having regard to the roles and responsibilities of Commonwealth, state and non-government agencies and coordination of their activities in Australia and across regional borders.  Full Terms of Reference adopted by the Committee are outlined here.

The Committee will invite various stakeholders to participate in the roundtable discussions. Details will be released in due course.

Agencies or individuals seeking to write to the Committee regarding this inquiry should direct their correspondence to the Committee Secretariat.
