Report into Indigenous youth and the criminal justice system
released
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Committee has
tabled their report into Indigenous youth and the criminal justice
system.
During the inquiry, the Committee was told that young Aboriginal
people are 28 times more likely to be detained than non-indigenous
juveniles and that chronic disadvantage faced by many Indigenous
people has led to the high rates of incarceration.
This About the House TV presenation first screened in May 2010
and explores some of the issues that the Committee examined.
