To vary the hours of meeting

A notice was given by the Minister for Human Services (Senator Ludwig) to vary the hours of meeting for 4 December 2008 to enable the Government’s legislative program to be considered.

Message from the House of Representatives

  • Water Amendment Bill 2008–informing the Senate that the House has agreed to 3 amendments made by the Senate, disagreed to 12 amendments and made an amendment to 1 amendment–the Senate did not insist on its amendments and agreed to the amendment made by the House to its amendment. The motion that the report of the committee be adopted was amended, and the debate was adjourned until the next day of sitting.

Variation to hours of meeting

The Senate agreed to vary the hours of meeting and routine of business for 2 and 3 December 2008 to enable the Government’s legislative program to be considered.

Private meeting

The Senate authorised the Fuel and Energy Select Committee to hold a private meeting otherwise than in accordance with standing order 33(1) while the Senate is sitting on 2 December 2008 from 4.00pm.

Reporting dates extended

The Senate extended reporting dates for the following inquiries:

  • Commonwealth Radioactive Waste Management (Repeal and Consequential Amendment) Bill 2008–Environment, Communications and the Arts Committee–to report by 18 December 2008
  • Residential and community aged care in Australia–Finance and Public Administration Committee–to report by 29 April 2009

Notice of motion given

Senator Siewert gave a notice of motion to refer matters relating to forestry and mining operations on the Tiwi Islands to the Environment, Communications and the Arts Committee for report by 25 June 2009.
