The following bills were exempted from the cut-off order [to enable consideration in this period of sittings – 16 August to 30 November 2011]

Motions agreed to
The Senate debated and agreed to a motion to vary the hours of meeting and routine of business for 12 October 2011 to enable the Clean Energy Bill 2011 and 17 related bills to be considered [first speaker ].
The Senate also agreed to a motion to vary the routine of business on 13 October 2011 to enable the Government’s legislative program to be considered.

- Corporations and Financial Services Joint Committee–12 October 2011 from 4.45 pm–Statutory oversight of the operations of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission–public meeting
- Environment and Communications References Committee–12 October 2011 from 9.35 am–private meeting otherwise than in accordance with standing order 33(1)
- National Broadband Network Joint Committee–13 October 2011 from 9.30 am to 11.00 am–public meeting
Reporting dates extended
The Senate extended reporting dates for the following inquiries:

- Regulatory standards for the approval of medical devices–to report by 8 November 2011

Proposed suspensions of standing orders
The Senate did not agree to the following motions moved by senators to suspend standing orders:
- Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Abetz)–to enable debate on a motion censuring the Government and the Australian Greens [first speaker]
- Senator Macdonald–to enable debate on a motion relating to the Leader of the Australian Greens (Senator Bob Brown) and his previous statements on limitations of debates [first speaker]
- Senator Ronaldson–to enable debate on a motion to take note of a matter clarified by the President relating to the order of call during debates [first speaker]
