Meeting during the sitting of the Senate

The Senate authorised the Corporations and Financial Services Joint Committee to hold a private meeting otherwise than in accordance with standing order 33(1) during the sitting of the Senate on 21 November 2011 from 10.00 am.

Reporting dates extended
The Senate extended reporting dates for the following inquiries:

  • Community Affairs References Committee–Regulatory standards for the approval of medical devices–to report by 22 November 2011
  • Economics Legislation Committee–Consumer Credit and Corporations Legislation Amendment (Enhancements) Bill 2011–to report by 30 November 2011
  • Education, Employment and Workplace Relations Legislation Committee–Education Services for Overseas Students Legislation Amendment (Tuition Protection Service and Other Measures) Bill 2011 and 2 related bills–to report by 27 February 2012
  • Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee–Performance of the Department of Parliamentary Services–to report by 28 June 2012

The Senate agreed to the following changes to the membership of the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee:

  • Senator Hanson-Young to replace Senator Wright for the committee’s inquiry into the Deterring People Smuggling Bill 2011
  • Senator Ludlam to replace Senator Wright for the committee’s inquiry into the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Amendment (Online Games) Bill 2011

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister (Senator Lundy) tabled correspondence between the Minister for Health and Ageing (Ms Roxon) and the Future Fund [The document was tabled in response to the order of the Senate agreed to on 1 November 2011].

Senator Birmingham gave a notice of motion to require the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (Senator Conroy) to table recommendations provided by the Australia Network tender assessment panel and legal advice–no later than noon on 10 November 2011.
