Death of former senator and former member
The President informed the Senate of the death on 18 October 2010
of the Honourable Kenneth Shaw Wriedt, a senator for the state of
Tasmania from 1968 to 1980 [motion
moved by the Leader of the Government in the Senate (Senator
Evans)].
The Acting Deputy President (Senator Troeth) informed the Senate of
the death on 1 July 2010 of Dr Gareth Clayton, a member of the
House of Representatives for the division of Isaacs from 1974 to
1975.
Personal explanation
The Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Abetz) made a
personal explanation about an article in the Hobart
Mercury of 23 October 2010 concerning a matter currently
before the High Court relating to his election to the Senate.
