Privilege matter
The President made a
statement relating to a matter of privilege raised by Senator
Nettle concerning possible false or misleading evidence given by
officers at estimates hearings of the Legal and Constitutional
Legislation Committee in May 2004 and February 2005 relating to the
Government's knowledge that Mr Mamdouh Habib had been taken to
Egypt. Senator Nettle gave a
notice of motion to refer the matter to the Committee of
Privileges.

Notice of intention to withdraw a notice
The Chair of the Standing Committee on Regulations and
Ordinances gave notice of his intention to withdraw a
notice to disallow
principles that outline the process that the Secretary to the
Department of Health and Ageing will undertake in investigating
complaints regarding the responsibilities of a residential or
community aged care provider.

Procedural change
The Senate agreed that a
sessional order adopted on 6 October 2005 relating to the
unauthorised disclosure of committee proceedings operate as an
order of continuing effect.
Estimates questions on notice failure to provide
answers
Senator Carr asked the Minister representing the Minister for
Education, Science and Training (Senator Brandis) why answers had
not been provided to 145 questions placed on notice during the
consideration of the 2007-08 budget estimates by the Employment,
Workplace Relations and Education Committee.
The Minister provided an explanation. A
motion to take note of the Minister's response was agreed
to.
