President of the Senate
A letter was tabled from Senator the Honourable Paul Calvert
resigning from the office of President of the Senate. Senators
Ferguson and
Nettle were proposed to the Senate for its President. A
ballot was held and Senator Ferguson was elected as
President.

Corrigendum
Committee briefing
The Senate authorised the Rural and Regional Affairs and
Transport Committee to hold a meeting while the Senate is sitting
on 15 August 2007 from 3.30pm to allow officers of the Department
of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Biosecurity Australia and
Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service to provide a briefing
to the committee.
Notice of motion given
A notice of motion was given to extend the reporting deadline of
the Employment, Workplace Relations and Education Committee for its
inquiry into the current level of academic standards of school
education to 13 September 2007.
