To vary the hours of meeting
A
notice was given by the Minister representing the Minister for
Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (Senator Abetz) to vary the
hours of meeting for 13 to 16 August 2007 to allow the Government's
legislative program to be considered.

Notice of intention to withdraw a notice
The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Regulations and
Ordinances gave notice of his intention to withdraw a notice to
disallow
regulations to amend the Australian Federal Police Regulations
1979 to prescribe matters related to the suspension of AFP
appointees from their duties and matters related to drug
testing.

The Senate adopted
report no. 12 of the Selection of Bills Committee, and made the
following reference:
- Water Bill 2007 and a related bill Environment, Communications,
Information Technology and the Arts Committee to report by 14
August 2007
Proposed select committee
The Senate did not agree to establish a select committee to
inquire into
Australia's anti-terrorism laws.
Proposed reference
The Senate did not agree to refer matters relating to the
detention and release of
Dr Mohammed Haneef to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs
Committee.
Public meeting
The Senate authorised the Economics Committee to hold a public
meeting while the Senate was sitting on 9 August 2007 from 4.30pm
to 6.00pm for the committee's inquiry into private equity
markets.
Membership
The Senate agreed to the following changes and appointments to
committee membership:
- Environment, Communications, Information Technology and the
Arts Committee Senator O'Brien to replace Senator Lundy for the
committee's inquiry into the Water Bill 2007 and a related bill,
and Senator Lundy appointed as a participating member
- Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee Senator Adams
appointed as a participating member
