Notice of intention to withdraw notices
The Chair of the Standing Committee on Regulations and
Ordinances gave a notice of intention to withdraw notices to
disallow the following delegated legislation:

regulations to amend the A New Tax System (Commonwealth-State
Financial Arrangements) Regulations 2003 by extending the years for
transitional GST assistance to 30 June 2009
-
determination providing guidelines for the exercise of the
power to give public interest certificates for the purposes of
paragraph 208(1)(a) of the Social Security (Administration) Act
1999 by the Secretary of the Department of Employment and Workplace
Relations

An erratum and additional information were tabled in relation to
the inquiry of the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport
Committee into water policy initiatives.
New Inquiry
The Senate referred to the Committee of Privileges
matters concerning possible false or misleading evidence given
before the Finance and Public Administration References Committee
and refusal to answer questions put by the committee when required
to do so .
Proposed reference
The Senate did not agree to refer
matters relating to the
proposed takeover of Qantas to the Rural and Regional Affairs
and Transport Committee. [First
speaker]
Public meeting
The Senate authorised the Joint Committee of Public Accounts and
Audit to hold a public meeting while the Senate is sitting on 8
February 2007 from 9.30am to 1.00pm for the committee’s
inquiry into financial reporting and equipment acquisition at the
Department of Defence and Defence Materiel Organisation.
Reporting date extended
The Senate agreed to extend the reporting date for the inquiry
of the Finance and Public Administration Committee into the
transparency and accountability of Commonwealth public funding and
expenditure to 1 March 2007.
