supplementary budget estimates (membership of committees, portfolio
allocation, terms of reference etc.) is available on the Senate web

program for each of the committees listed below is
available on the Senate webpage and will be updated as
necessary.

The Senate Daily Summary will be published each day
after the committees meet. The Summary will give a brief overview
on the progress made by each committee and the business each
committee expects to consider the next day.
Community Affairs Committee
Portfolios allocated: Families, Community
Services and Indigenous Affairs; Health and Ageing

The committee met from 9am until 10.50pm.
The committee:
- called the department and agencies of the
Health and Ageing portfolio, including Medibank Private, Private
Health Insurance Administration Council and Aged Care Standards and
Accreditation Agency.
The committee will next meet on Thursday, 2 November 2006 in
Senate Committee Room 2S1, calling the:
- Family, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs portfolio,
commencing with the department.
Economics Committee
Portfolios allocated: Industry, Tourism and
Resources; Treasury

The committee met from 9.05am until 11.01pm.
The committee:
- called the department and agencies of the
Industry, Tourism and Resources portfolio, including IP Australia,
Tourism Australia and Geoscience Australia; and
- called the department and agencies of the
Treasury portfolio, including the Australian Competition and
Consumer Commission, Australian Bureau of Statistics, and
Inspector-General of Taxation.
The committee will next meet on Thursday, 2 November 2006 in
House of Representatives Committee Room 2R1, calling the:
- Treasury portfolio, commencing with the Australian Securities
and Investment Commission.
Employment, Workplace Relations and Education
Committee
Portfolios allocated: Education, Science and
Training; Employment and Workplace Relations

The committee met from 9am until 11.01pm.
The committee:
- called the department and agencies of the
Education, Science and Training portfolio, including the
Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation,
Australian Research Council and Australian Nuclear Science and
Technology Organisation.
The committee will next meet on Thursday, 2 November 2006 in
Senate Committee Room 2S3, calling the:
- Employment and Workplace Relations portfolio, commencing with
the Office of the Employment Advocate.
Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade
Committee
Portfolios allocated: Defence (including
Veterans’ Affairs); Foreign Affairs and Trade

The committee met from 9am until 11pm.
The committee:
- called the departments and agencies of the
Defence portfolio (including Veterans’ Affairs), including
the Defence Materiel Organisation.
The committee will next meet on Thursday, 2 November 2006 in the
Main Committee Room, calling the:
- Foreign Affairs and Trade portfolio, commencing with the
department.
