    Part of a package of seven bills to reform the private health insurance sector, the bill replaces the current regulatory framework with a new regulatory framework which includes measures such as: the introduction of Broader Health Cover which will cover out of hospital services which substitute for, or avert, hospital care; premiums reduction and incentive payments schemes; standard product information; conversion to for-profit status; restructures, mergers and acquisitions of health funds; a comparative website for consumers; changes to Lifetime Health Cover for those with 10 years’ continuous cover; and provides for the Office of Private Health Insurance Ombudsman.

    Introduced with the Parliamentary Superannuation and Other Entitlements Legislation Amendment Bill 2004, the bill establishes new superannuation arrangements for persons who become members of the Federal Parliament at or after the next general election. The new arrangements will involve a 9 per cent contribution payable into a superannuation fund nominated by the senator or member.
